Summons

I received a summons for an account from 2015 or early 2016 that I am sure was taken care 2 months after opening the account. I had rented to own a TV and TV stand with Aaron's rental center. After just a few weeks, an ex boyfriend took the TV along with other items when I made him leave my home. He was supposed to be on the account therefore, claiming his right to take the TV. I immediately called Aaron's to inform them of what happened and ask that my name be removed from the account. Instead of this happening, his name was removed and then I was told he was never on the account. At the same time, he rented another TV from them on the same day which was just his name. After talking repeatedly to Aaron's sales manager and store manager at the time, I was told that they would give me some time to locate the TV and return it or call for them to pick it up. After a few weeks, I was able to get the TV back, called Aaron's to come pick up both items, and clear the account in my name. No one showed up to pick up either item after many promises of pick up times. Finally, I called to inform them that I could bring the TV back but had no way of picking up the stand and hauling it to them. I took the TV back, informed them that I was in the middle of moving so the stand would need to be picked up by end of the week. On that following Friday, I called to speak to store manager yet again and again was promised they would be there by the end of the day to retrieve the stand. On our last load to move, we moved the stand to the carport, called Aaron's, and told them where it was. She told me to leave it in the carport and the driver would be there soon. When we came back to the house to do a final check, the stand was gone. I called Aaron's again to assure they retrieved the stand and cleared my account. I gave a forwarding address in case I owed for the time of transition and the time I had the items and they wouldn't come get it. She informed me that she would take care of it since the timeframe was due to miscommunication on their end. I have never heard a word from them and gone into the store on several occasions to make sure there was no problems. I recently purchased a mattress from them that is being paid directly from my account. On my credit report, the Aaron's tradeline said paid in full satisfactory and by the terms for the above mentioned items. I assumed the manager had done what she said and took care of the problems we had getting the items to them. Now, today, I have a sheriff deputy knocking on my door early this morning to deliver a summons for a debt with Aaron's for 1572.51 from 6 plus years ago. I've never had any calls, never had mail correspondence from them, and did my due diligence to make sure the debt was taken care of way back then. What can I do about this?
