I'm being sued in a different county than the one I live in.

If I am being sued, don't they have to sue me in my own district. The court I am being summoned in is 4 hours away from me.

Wmccloskey1224, in most cases, yes, you should be sued in the district where you live. It depends on a lot of factors though. Usually a debt lawsuit should be filed in the location where the issue arose, probably the location the debtor lived when they stopped making payments. Depending on several factors, alternatively, it may need to be filed in the location where the debt originated or where the person being sued currently lives, or where the creditor is located.
Generally, the person being sued can always bring up an improper venue (I'm being sued in the wrong place!) defense in their Answer.
